GAME START DELAYED - Target 1PM Start

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - The overnight deluge has impacted the ability for the tournament to start on time today, however, games are targeted to start at 1pm CDT weather and field quality permitting.

Scheduled games today would include:

1pm - KENTUCKY VS. WISCONSIN

3PM - MISSOURI VS. ILLINOIS

5PM - OHIO VS. IOWA

The INDIANA vs. MICHIGAN game would be played at 9am on Sunday morning, 7/23 and all games scheduled for Sunday will move forward one game slot in the original schedule.  The last game on Sunday will move to Monday at 9am.

Opening Ceremonies in the books!

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - Several hundred players, fans and volunteers gathered to witness the 2017 Central Region Junior Softball Regional Opening Ceremonies, held Friday, 7/21 at Veterans Memorial Park.

The festivities included the parade of State Champions, a color guard provided by world-renowned Chicago-based Pipe and Drum band The Shannon Rovers, introduction of key volunteer staff, a welcome and ceremonial pitch by Mayor Don DeGraff, comments by a representative of the Southland Chamber of Commerce as well as a welcome from Sandy Ducat, Tournament Director and District Administrator of Illinois District 6 Little League.

The ceremonies also featured a 'spirit' contest where each participating team presented a cheer.  After much deliberation by the volunteer umpire staff, Wisconsin's Oak Creek Little League were declared the 2017 Tournament Spirit Winners.

Immediately following the Opening Ceremonies, the teams and fans enjoyed a donated pizza banquet featuring pizza from local favorite Aurelio's.  In addition, banquet attendees were treated to a live performance from Jonathan Moody of the Jonathan Moody Band (http://www.jonathanmoodyband.com) who traveled from Houston to perform for the event.

Texas Musician Jonathan Moody set to play Tournament Opener!

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - Texan Americana music performer Jonathan Moody is set to perform at the opening ceremonies for the Junior Regional Tournament!

Due to a scheduling challenge, originally scheduled band MIDNIGHT is unable to perform at the tournament and Jonathan Moody has graciously stepped in because of the cause!  Check out his band and their music - http://www.jonathanmoodyband.com

Jonathan Moody is an Americana musician and native Texan who grew up playing baseball and spent his Sundays singing a cappella in his father’s church.  He’s an Aggie from College Station and loves Texas.  He played baseball in college before picking up an acoustic guitar in San Antonio where he began writing songs and today performs favorite popular music at clubs that have included events on both the Grand Old Opry and The House of Blues stages.  Aside from performing, Jonathan loves to visit with friends around a fire and watch movies in his Hill Country home located southwest of Boerne.  His musical influences are vast.  Jonathan had his first 6-song EP release in April of 2013 that includes all original songs and he looks forward to sharing his music with you.

Please come out and witness the fervor that is Jonathan Moody!  Performance starts immediately after opening ceremonies - approximately 7pm in the Band Shell at Veterans Memorial Park.

Congratulations to Lynwood Little League - host of the 2017 Central Region Little League Urban Initiative Tournament

SOUTH HOLLAND and LYNWOOD, IL - The 2017 Central Region Junior Softball Regional Tournament Committee wishes to congratulate Illinois District 6 member - Lynwood Little League, on being selected once again to host this year's Central Region Urban Initiative Tournament.  The tournament will be held 6/24-6/25 at Lakeview Community Park in Lynwood, IL.  This will be the second year in a row that Lynwood has hosted the tournament.

The Urban Initiative is a program administered by Little League International (Williamsport, PA) and provides resources to leagues in urban areas that are either underserved or unable to build programs due to a lack of funds and/or other support.

The tournament will host ten (10) teams from around the 12-state Central Region for a weekend-long tournament.  Teams participating are local league teams, selected to represent their home leagues.  The selected teams are not all-star teams, but regular league teams that get a chance to play in this special event.

Likewise, volunteer umpires will also come from across the Central Region to give their time to this great tournament. 

The tournament will feature 10 games per day both Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday running two fields simultaneously starting at 9am.  Sunday will start with games running simultaneously at 9am and moving into bracket rounds with the Tournament Championship game starting around 4:00pm.

Chicago-area bands MIDNIGHT and CODE BLUE to perform at Tournament!

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - Chicago-area bands MIDNIGHT and CODE BLUE will be performing at this year's Junior Softball Regional tournament.

Described as playing Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra and everything in-between, MIDNIGHT hails from Tinley Park, IL and features multi-instrumentalists and a great horn section.  Also from the southern suburbs, CODE BLUE comes from Orland Hills, IL and features original blues music as well as covers of well-known blues, r&b, and blues-themed classic rock songs.

Tournament attendees will get to hear MIDNIGHT immediately following the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, July 21 during the Tournament Banquet (to be held in the Shelter and Gazebo areas). 

CODE BLUE will play Sunday night July 23 at approximately 5:30pm in the Gazebo.

Poland Ohio is the 2016 Central Region Junior League Champion

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - In a day fraught with lightning and rain delays, potential field moves and concern that the tournament would have to extend another day, the softball deities moved the weather away to allow the Championship Game to complete with the Ohio State Champions coming from behind to win over Michigan's Delta County, 4-3 in 6.5 innings.

Earlier in the day, in the consolation game, the State Champions of Indiana, Yorktown JAA Little League, defeated the State Champions of Illinois, Melrose Park Little League, 2-1 and took 3rd and 4th place respectively.

The OH team will fly directly to Seattle, WA to attend the Junior League Softball World Series in Kirkland, WA which starts Sunday, July 31st.

Congratulations to Poland Little League on advancing to the Junior League World Series!

Challenger game cancelled due to lack of team participation

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL - Unfortunately, the tournament was notified Wednesday afternoon that the originally scheduled Challenger game will be cancelled due to lack of available players.

The game was a great hit at last year's tournament and featured a local Challenger division team, the entire umpire staff and members of several teams including the teams competing later that day for the Regional Championship.

The Challenger Division is a division of Little League International that focuses on special needs youth and young adults and provides a way for all who are interested in baseball or softball the chance to play the game regardless of disability.

The Tournament Championship game will now move into the slot previously occupied by the Challenger Game.  The Championship game will now occur at 3pm CDT.
